10 Beautiful Things, vol. 40
The London version
Good morning!
This is 10 Beautiful Things, a weekly missive about the search for beauty in ordinary life. Here you’ll find ten things I’ve found beautiful, online or off. I hope to share some beauty with you, and encourage you to find (and share!) some beautiful things of your own.
The real and childlike wonder that archival research brings about — even though it also came with its own surprising, overwhelming learning curve, seeing original writings, paintings, and unpublished texts pertinent to my research was surreal.
The flat I stayed in last week, full of old books, quirky, colorful artwork, and an espresso machine.
Winter camellias on a grey day, always eager, defiant of winter.
I took myself to see The Mousetrap, an Agatha Christie mystery set to stage which is also London’s longest-running play (74 years!).
My hero software tools this past week, without whom I would be lost: Adobe Scan, Zotero, Notion, Scrivener, AirDrop.
Being met at the end of my long week of research with my dear friend Elizabeth. We hurtled into a weekend of seeing all that we could, pursuing pastries, people watching, and talking, talking, talking.
My very first Parkrun in Hampstead Heath, through the hills and fields.
Observing the experience design of the fancy shops in Chelsea and the London fashion scene this week. Londoners make so many design choices with a degree of intentionality that makes exploring such a lesson in color theory, curation, and attention to the details.
A dairy-free high tea (!!). I haven’t had cheesecake in over a year and theirs was delicious!
The wing of Turner’s unfinished landscapes at the Tate Britain. We listened to this song while we took them in.
What’s something beautiful you found this week?
