The Forage: July's Art Letter
paintings of home & studies of light, plus a print shop announcement!
Hello there! Thanks for following along with my studio adventures. This is my art letter, sent once a month.
In this letter, you'll get an insider view of what I'm currently creating in my home studio. This is also where my early shop openings and subscriber-only discounts live. Welcome!
Painting for the Placemakers
One of my favorite things about being an artist is working closely with others to create commissioned work! Bringing personal and presence-filled beauty to the lives of others is one of the most fulfilling things I can think of.
Lately I’ve had lots of conversations with friends about places that hold special memories – childhood homes and the homes of grandparents, special places traveled to with a loved one, and more. Exploring these things through painting is a way to preserve the memory in a unique way, and to share its joy through a beautiful medium.
Do you have a memory of place that you’d like preserved through original art? Let’s talk about it – I would love to hear your story!
Lately, I’ve been challenging myself in the studio by making monochromatic landscape light studies – with a limited timeframe and only one color to work with, I have to make quick, focused, and intuitive decisions about the landscape and how the light hits the scene. How can I visually express a place and its emotion with these limitations?
It has been very fun and very rewarding to practice landscape painting using a limited palette, and these little landscapes (and more!) will be available soon as part of an all-new, end of summer collection coming in August.
Print Shop Opening August 1st
I’ve been so excited to share this news – on August 1st, I’ll be launching a brand new print shop on Etsy!
Etsy’s a platform I’ve used for many years now for a wide variety of things, from prints to original artwork to products like hand-painted journals. In fact, Etsy was the first platform I ever sold art on (back in 2014!) before the days of in-person markets, commissions, or collection launches on my website. Ten years later, it’s taking a new form – its best form yet, in my opinion!
What’s new is that instead of making prints at home, I’m partnering with a printer to produce high quality, giclée prints on watercolor paper. When I’ve ordered test prints and placed them side by side with the originals, it’s nearly impossible to tell which is the original artwork! I’m very pleased to offer prints of this quality, and it also lets me share some of my favorite art pieces that have gone on to other homes in their original forms.
As a thank-you for being here, take 5% off a print on Etsy with the discount code CHEERS10YEARS. I will send you another email with this code on August 1st when the shop opens to everyone!
I’m grateful for you! Thanks for reading my art letter. Feel free to forward this post to a friend who loves art and adventure.
