The Forage: Slightly-After August's Art Letter
First access to fall's custom painting slots and August's bestselling prints
Hello there! Thanks for following along with my studio adventures. This is my art letter, sent once a month.
In this letter, you'll get an insider view of what I'm currently creating in my home studio. This is also where my early shop openings and subscriber-only discounts live. Welcome!
Hello, friends! It is as the poet says: August slipped away. My plans to write weekly in this space were dashed from a very busy few weeks full of good things, like hosting loved ones, celebrating friends, and running an arts camp at my church. (More on that soon!) However, I’m glad to be back in your inbox to share what I’ve been up to in the past month, and some things that you can look forward to!
Summer Inspiration
This week, I’m taking a look back at my summer camera roll. It was a busy season with some back-to-back trips that had me yearning for hibernation by the end, yet it somewhat ordinary one at the same time. Family vacations and their long drives with busy work weeks wedged in between, walking in the backyard all squishy from the summer afternoon rainstorms, camping trips with river swims and s’mores, morning neighborhood walks squeezed in before the temperature reached 90 degrees, pilgrimages to my favorite thrift shop with friends, and lots of watermelon marked my summer (and probably yours, too). But looking at my camera roll of this somewhat regular, busy summer feels shot through with beauty and meaning.
Though summer’s winding down and it’s immediately starting to feel like fall here on the East Coast, I feel I have a deep well of memory and painting inspiration to draw from this ordinary, lovely season coming to a close. This quote from Out of the Silent Planet is close to mind this week:
A pleasure is full grown only when it is remembered. When you and I met, the meeting was over very shortly, it was nothing. Now it is growing something as we remember it, what will it be when I remember it as I lie down to die, what it makes in me all my days till then - that is the real meeting.
